What We Have Learned About the Cyclones

How 'bout them Clones! I think I speak for all of Cyclone Nation when I say I never expected Iowa State to start off the season 3-0! Halfway to a bowl birth! It's insanity!

Steele Jantz lead the Cyclones to a 3OT win over Iowa
But really, should we be all that surprised? Iowa State has shown steady improvement the past two years under Coach Paul Rhoads, now in his third year as head coach.

In their first game, the Cyclones narrowly pulled off a win against in-state pest UNI.
Game two, most people know, ISU defeats Iowa in 3OT. A huge surprise to just about everybody. Including myself.
And last week the Cyclones pulled off their third consecutive come-from-behind win of the season over UCONN.

Luck? Maybe. Talent? Absolutely. Guts? You better believe it! This team has it all!

This Cyclone team appears to be the real deal. But is it really fair to hold this team in such high regards so soon? I think we will find out next week when the Clones take on conference enemy Texas at Jack Trice Stadium. Iowa State defeated Texas in Austin last year, so you better believe the Longhorns are hoping to stampede into Ames and "STEEL" a win from Jantz and the Cyclones. This year, this game holds high implications for both squads.

#20 Jake Knott has led the Cyclones on defense this season
Texas (3-0) has been shuffling quarterbacks like a deck of cards and seem like a somewhat confused program at the moment. Not to mention this whole conference reallignment fiasco Texas is in, but I digress. The Longhorns come in ranked #19 in the nation, but the Cyclones are right behind them. ISU (3-0) received 19 AP votes this week and 27 USA Today votes in the polls. A win over Texas would surely put them in to the Top 25 for the first time since the McCarney era. There is no doubt this program is headed in the right direction. And with a week to rest and think about next Saturdays contest, the Cyclones should like where they are sitting right now.

As a Cyclone fan and Iowa State student, 3-0 feels darn good right now! Bring on the Horns!
