Green for Greenwood

A year ago, former Iowa safety Brett Greenwood would have been fighting through the intense preparation of game week with the Iowa Hawkeye football team. This year, Greenwood has been fighting for his life, and Hawkeye fans plan to show their support this Saturday when the Iowa Hawkeyes take on Lousiana Monroe at Kinnick Stadium. Greenwood's recent situation has caused many Hawk fans to reflect upon the fact that football is just a game.

On September 9th, Greenwood collapsed during a workout at Pleasant Valley High School. Having been recently cut by the Steelers, Greenwood was working hard to get signed by another team. A bystander administered CPR, and Greenwood was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was placed in intensive care, and is now in a medically induced coma.  Here is a great article from the Daily Iowan on Greenwood's condition.

Last Wednesday was Greenwood's 24th birthday, and he remained at UIHC. Hawkeye fans on Twitter began an outpouring of sympathy for Greenwood, and a movement to "Wear Green for Greenwood" began. There is a Facebook group for "Wear Green for Greenwood," which currently consists of  over 4,000 members and is selling green #30 player tees (with the money going to the Greenwood family and/or charities). This Saturday, fans are encouraged to wear green into Kinnick Stadium to show their support for Brett as he recovers. Keep him in your prayers.
